Welcome to the web site of the Wessex Golf Society.
2005 June Update.
Additional fixtures now confirmed!
Please follow fixtures link for details, results will be published at a later
date.
The first match of the new season kicked off at Three Rivers G.C in February,
the weather was kind and the course in good condition for the time of year. Dave Brown took the honours, his first win since
joining the society.
The Spring Cup was held at Thorpeness G.C for the second year running. This
year we were blessed with decent weather, this was reflected in the scoring, considerably higher than last year, and the course
was in fine condition. Phil Holmes led overnight and followed this up with an excellent second round (40 pts) to
finally relieve Gordon of the trophy. Our thanks must go to the staff of Thorpeness G.C for looking after us so well once
again.
In April, the match was held at Burnham - on - Crouch, another little gem
of a course, Phil Stroud was on fire, even adding a 'Barnes Wallis bouncing bomb' on the long 16th. As Phil said " Not even
Tiger Woods would have beaten me today"
The AGM was held after the match, all the current officers were re-elected
and a new position of Captain was proposed. Martin Shaw was
duly elected as the societys first Captain. The maximum handicap was reduced to 28.
In May we moved to Ilford where the Secretary put in a (rare) appearence,
however this was overshadowed by Ken Challenor, winning his first event in fine style, well done Ken!
Fixtures have now been confirmed for June, August, September and October,
and once again we will be venturing down to the south coast in July for the Bournemouth Cup.
